CWEF’s primary work has been in India to assist needy widows for the education of their children. More than 35 million widowed mothers are bringing up some 110 million children in India. Widowhood plunges mothers in poor households into desperate and extreme poverty; these destitute widows have a difficult time providing for the education of their children. A great majority of these children are thus deprived of an education that can lift them out of this poverty cycle. By assisting their mothers, CWEF offers these children a hope and incentive to work hard to shape a brighter future for themselves and for their families. Once started, CWEF continues supporting the education of a child for as long as the child keeps studying—through primary, elementary, secondary, college, university or any other educational institution. CWEF is determined to help as many children as possible to achieve their full educational potential.
